Shagun Scheme- For Girls in Punjab

Yet another scheme for the benefit of the girl child is the Shagun Scheme in Punjab. The State Government of Punjab has launched this scheme to provide financial assistance for girl’s marriage. The Department of Welfare of scheduled castes and backward classes of Punjab has implemented this scheme.

Know about the ‘Shagun Scheme’ of the Punjab Government

Under the scheme:

  • The State government will provide financial help of Rs. 15,000 for the marriage of daughters to the poor families in Punjab.
  • Punjab government has always provided various opportunities & benefits to girls and women of the state.
  • Punjab is one of the topmost states to provide empowerment to the women in various sectors.

Objectives of the Shagun Scheme

  • The main objective of this scheme is to bring an optimistic change post a girl child is born.
  • The scheme aims to support the family monetarily for the marriage of a girl,
  • Shagun scheme also discourages girl child marriage in the state.
  • The scheme encourages marriages only after the girl has attained the legal age for marriage.
  • Along with this, it also helps to refine the current status of education and health for the girl child in the state of Punjab
  • Shagun scheme also aims at maintaining the gender balance and helping the family in making a proper future plan.
  • The payout of money under Shagun Scheme which is of Rs 15,000 is directly transferred into the bank accounts of beneficiaries.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidate should be a resident of the Punjab state
  • Candidate family must come under below poverty line (BPL) families.
  • Candidate should belong to Scheduled Castes, Christian Girls, Backward Classes and Other Economically Weaker families to get benefits under this Shagun scheme.

Documents Required for the Shagun Scheme

  • Caste certificate
  • BPL card
  • Verified form by Gazette officer or Sarpanch
  • Bank account details
  • Aadhaar card
  • Residence proof
  • Age proof

Applying Procedure for Shagun Scheme

There are namely two ways to apply for the Shagun Scheme for Girls in Punjab. These are mentioned as follows:

  • Online Procedure

  1. Visit State Portal of Punjab http://punjab.gov.in/shagun-service
  2. Click on the ‘apply online shagun scheme’
  3. If you are a new user then click on New User link,
  4. If you aren’t a new user then log in with your Username and Password http://punjab.gov.in/eform/login.xhtml
  5. After the above steps, register by filling essential details such as name, middle name, surname, date of birth
  6. On successfully registering, you will get a LOGIN ID & PASSWORD
  7. Log in with the same credentials
  8. After logging in for the first time, you will be asked to update their profile.
  9. Click on “Fresh Application” link in the left menu
  10. On the next screen, all Department wise services are listed.
  11. Choose the service you want to apply for
  12. Click the “Apply” link next to the service
  13. On the Fresh Application screen, go to Alternative 2 (Online Form application) section and click on “Click here to fill the application form online” link
  14. Fill the form and click on the “Submit” button.
  15. Click “View Saved Application” link,
  16. Select the application
  17. Click “Upload Supporting Documents” button
  18. Now, upload the documents and then submit
  • Offline Procedure

  1. Visit State Portal of Punjab http://punjab.gov.in/shagun-service
  2. Click on the ‘apply online shagun scheme’
  3. If you are a new user then click on New User link,
  4. If you aren’t a new user login with your Username and Password http://punjab.gov.in/eform/login.xhtml
  5. Now register by filling essential details such as name, middle name, surname, date of birth
  6. On successfully registering, user will get LOGIN ID & PASSWORD and log in with the same
  7. After logging in for the first time, the user will be asked to update their profile.
  8. Click on “Fresh Application” link in the left menu.
  9. On the next screen, all Department wise services are listed.
  10. Choose the service you want to apply for and click the “Apply” link next to the service
  11. On the Fresh Application screen, go to Alternative 1(Offline Form application) section and click on Form Name to download the e-Form.
  12. Fill the e-Form in offline mode (Internet connection is not required to fill e-Form)
  13. Login to the application and on the Fresh Application screen, go to Alternative 1 (Offline Form application) section and click on “Click here to upload the filled form” link
  14. Browse to the filled e-Form and click on “Add” button
