Scheme for Development of Sports: ‘Khelo India National Program’
The Scheme for Development of Sports: ‘Khelo India National Program’ is being executed by the ministry as a central sector scheme said minister, Vijay Goel, of state for Youth Affairs and Sports. This program is implemented by the ministry from the current fiscal year 2017-18. The Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr. Vijay Goel said that the government has planned to boost India’s sports infrastructure through the Khelo India program.
Under Khelo India National Program:
Minister Vijay Goel also said that the new scheme was approved by the Members of Parliament and Local Area Development (MPLAD) scheme.
- The programs provide creation of sports infrastructure that includes making of a Synthetic athletic track, synthetic hockey field, synthetic turf football ground, multipurpose hall and other similar facilities.
- Construction of Stadium Complex will be decided by this ministry after taking into account the various facilities available in a state.
- Construction of stadium complex could include facilities like multi-purpose indoor halls for indoor games, indoor stadium including swimming pool complex, outdoor stadium with spectator gallery facilities, Courts for sports like tennis, squash, basketball, volleyball and others under Khelo India Program.
There are a number of projects that can be allotted funding under the Khelo India program include the above and some others like a construction of stadium complex at district headquarters etc. Khelo India Program could also include putting up of Sports academies and training centers including hostels for sports-persons.
This scheme is applicable all over India.
