Places to Visit in Kodanad
Kodanad is a riverside village of Ernakulam district, which is located on the banks of Periyar River. About 42km east of Kochi, the village is a major tourist destination and houses an elephant training centre, which is a central attraction for many people. The place is surrounded by many small but populous commuter villages namely Koovappady, Thottuva, Alattuchira, Panamkuzhy, etc.
Apart from all, Kodanad is in the list of ecotourism destination projects sponsored by the government of India. There are particular places that you can visit while being here.
Kodanand Elephant Training Centre
The Kodanad Elephant Training Centre recently shifted to Abhayaranyam at Kaprikkad (which is about 3 km from Kodanad), set on the Southern banks of the Periyar River amidst the beautiful high ranges near Perumbavoor is one of the largest elephant training centres in Kerala. Now, it has been the place, where elephants are preserved
Abhayaranyam mini zoo has hundreds of deer in its region. It is also the part of Kaprikkad ecotourism project that initiated in 2010. Visitors here can enjoy the safari tour while roaming around in a natural forest area, with proper fencing for the safety of both animal and visitors. And, to save this biodiversity zone, Abhayaranyam project i.e. Kaprikkad Eco-tourism project was launch in 2010 to develop an animal rescue centre for the rehabilitation of wild animals.
Kodanad View Point
This viewpoint has beautiful scenic view and tea estates that show proper plantation in a natural system. Cold breeze, area that is unpolluted with the view of rocky peaks is just amazing for the photo fanatics. Mostly, in the lap of Nilgiri Mountains, Kodanad View Point has become a popular destination amongst the tourists so far.
