Anand is a district of Gujarat state, carved out of the Kheda district in 1997. Anand lies between Ahmedabad and Vadodara on the Western Railway.

Anand district is famous as the Milk Capital of India because of renowned Amul dairy and its Milk Revolution. It also hosts the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) of India and Anand Agricultural University. The IRMA (Institute of Rural Management) campus is also located in Anand. IRMA runs a Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Rural Management which is considered to be one of the best in the world.

Amul (AMUL means “priceless” in Sanskrit). The brand name “Amul,” from the Sanskrit “Amoolya,” was suggested by a quality control expert in Anand. Formed in 1946, a dairy cooperative in India, this brand name is managed by apex cooperative organization, Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (GCMMF). Currently, it is jointly owned by some 2.8 million milk producers in Gujarat.
Amul also has made its way to overseas markets such as Mauritius, UAE, USA, Bangladesh, Australia, China, Singapore, Hong Kong and a few South African countries. Milk products like Butter, Cheese, Icecreams, etc. are manufactured by AMUL brand.

Bhadran, a village in Anand district, in the Indian state of Gujarat was nicknamed the “Paris of Gaekwad state” due to its prosperity and civil works carried out by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, the visionary ruler of Baroda.
It also has many temples, and places for social activities like a Guest House, a Rest House, Nani Khadki Dharamshala, Brahman Vadi, Shree Bhadrakali Mataji’s Vadi, Central Hall in Town Hall, and Shree Annkshetra.

Karamsad is a city and a municipality in Anand district of Gujarat. It is the brought up place of one of India’s greatest leaders, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who raised the Indian Independence Movement. The place is also home to his elder brother Vithalbhai Patel, who was a prominent political leader. Karamsad is famous for Pramukh Swami Medical College.
