Chail, one of the hill station in Himachal Pradesh located at the height of 2,250m above sea level. This town is quite a famous destination and home to the world’s highest cricket ground, which is also used for playing polo. The town was once the capital of Patiala King’s and now known as hiker’s paradise.
It is a perfect place for the ones who wanted to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city for summer and winter vacations. Here are some of the travel locations that are must visit in Chail that are associated with religious, historical, and cultural importance.
This place was constructed by Maharaja of Patiala and signifies religious importance amongst the locals. Lush greenery surrounds Gurudwara Sahib, but the structure is not elaborated precisely. It is located around 15kms from the Chail town.
Chail Palace Hotel
When Maharaja was banished from Shimla, he built this Chail Palace, which is now converted into a heritage hotel in the region of Himachal Pradesh. With the mesmerising architecture, the palace has the classic artwork that adds to the Victorian ambience of it. And, living in Chail Palace can take you back into the Vintage era of Queen Victoria. The rooms here have the antique furniture that bestows glimpse of the royal lifestyle to the tourists.
Chail Wildlife Sanctuary
It was once the hunting ground of royal people that lived here. Then, in 1976, it was inaugurated as Chail wildlife sanctuary. The zoological park is a home to rare species of animals and birds like the Himalayan black bear, red deer, langur, etc. It is a perfect place for the people who are true lovers of fauna.
Sidh Baba Ka Mandir
This temple has the intriguing history, which is connected with Maharaja Bhupendra Singh, who wanted to construct a palace at the same spot where the temple stands in the present. According to stories, one night a saint, who meditated at that location and was buried beneath it, appeared in the king’s dream and informed him to stop the establishment of palace immediately. That’s why instead of a palace, the king established a temple over there and dedicated that to the name of Sidh Baba.
Maa Kali Temple (Kali Ka Tibba)
One of the most popular religious sites of Chail, Kali ka Tibba is a location where natives usually come to worship the deity. The architecture of Maa Kali Temple is not that immaculate but has a breathtaking beauty all around. It is also considered as trekking spot because of its location at the hill top.
The cricket ground is marked as highest ground in the world. It was built in 1983 by Maharaja Bhupender Singh at an altitude of2444 m above sea level. Presently, this field lies in the cantonment area and taken care by the army. The Sad part is, civilians are not allowed in the premises of cricket ground but one can walk or take a look at it.
Apart from all, Chail is a place that is pleasant to visit throughout the year, but it is best to visit it in summer to enjoy a mild weather and relaxing time here.
