For raising the urge of the subscribers to the new scheme and pensioners to adhere the advantage, the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has extended the date for providing the Aadhaar number, till March 31, 2017. A higher official stated on Thursday. The retirement fund body has made this mandatory for its about 50 lakh pension holders and around 4 crore subscribers to provide a copy of Aadhaar Card to remain the beneficiary of its social security schemes.
As per the statement of V P Joy, Central Provident Fund Commissioner EPFO, “We had given time until February 28, and now it has been extended to March 31. We are requesting everybody to furnish the Aadhaar number,”. When asked about the extension of the period further, Joy said, “The EPFO would assess the situation and decide after the expiry of the deadline”.
Previously, the EPFO concerned over 120 field self-offices to impart wide publicity to the action and had communicated to employers to create awareness among members and pensioners about providing Aadhaar Card.
Joy stated that “Aadhaar had been made mandatory to ensure that there is no fraud in disbursing pension and there is complete transparency. The retirement entity has undertaken a massive upgrade of its technology”.
For submitting digital life certificate for pensioners, the last date has also been extended to March 31. In January 4 notification, the labour ministry had made it mandatory for members and retirees of the Employees Pension Scheme to give proof of possession of the Aadhaar number or undergo Aadhaar Card authentication according to the procedure laid down by the EPFO.
