Butter Chicken which is also known as ‘Murg Makhani’ is the jewel of the Punjabi cuisine. Ask any Punjabi about it and you will know how crazy they are for Butter Chicken. Makke ki Roti with Sarson da Saag
I am sure all of you would have heard about Makke di Roti and Sarson da saag either from your Punjabi friend or a Bollywood movie. Aloo ke Paranthe
Now that we are talking about flatbreads, let me mention the name of one more flatbread in Punjab which is the king of all. Aloo ke Paranthe. From child to adult everyone is in love with aloo ke paranthe. And why wouldn’t they? It is one magical dish after all. Aloo ke paranthe is basically paranthe stuffed with mashed aloo and spices and tastes best when served with curd, pickle, chutney, onion, and everything that you would want with your paranthe.
Paneer Tikka is made in a traditional tandoori oven which gives it the mind-blowing smoky flavor that it has. It is basically a skewer where paneer, capsicum, tomato, and pineapple is skewered. It is served with onions, tomato, and green chutney. They say that Punjabis are best in making non-vegetarian dishes but when you try paneer tikka, you’ll start thinking the opposite of it.
Rajma chawal is that dish of the millennium that should either go hand in hand or should not go at all. Although it is originated from Kashmir, Punjabis are madly in love with the dish too. Dal Makhani is the king of all the dals from all around the world. The thick, creamy amalgamation of kidney beans and lentils will have the ground shift from beneath your feet. To make it even richer and thicker, a dollop of butter is added to it and then it is traditionally simmered for 2-3 hours on a low flame in order to make it the thickness it gets and the deep and remarkable flavor it contains.
Punjab should consider chicken as its national bird because apparently, the people there are madly in love with a chicken. And from the same unconditional love comes one more dish – Tandoori Chicken. Pinni is a dish made with desi ghee, wheat flour, jaggery and almonds which gives immense heat and energy. Although it is called dessert, Punjabi have this as a nutrient supplement.
Apart from being the most peaceful place on earth, the golden temple offers you some other things too. And one of them is Karma Prashad. Karma Prashad is made of equal amount of suji, butter, and sugar. It is majorly prepared in Punjabi households on special occasions and so every Punjabi would be absolutely in love with this. On a cold morning, Karma Prashad will make your experience what bliss feels like.
The best one is kept on the last place. That’s because after you have eaten all possible Punjabi food items there would still remain one left that you will crave for and that is Lassi.
